ABA Commission on Legal Problems of the Elderly (CLPE)
The ABA Commission on Legal Problems of the Elderly (CLPE) is dedicated to examining the law-related concerns of older persons. Established by the American Bar Association in 1978, the Commission has sought to improve legal services for the elderly, particularly through involvement of the private bar, and has explored legal issues surrounding long-term care, surrogate decision-making, individual rights, guardianship, housing, social security, elder abuse, and other public benefit programs. The 15-member multidisciplinary commission includes lawyers, judges, physicians, professors, aging network leaders, and advocates for older persons.
Administration on Aging (AoA)
AoA, as part of the Dept. of Health and Human Services, is the Federal focal point and advocate agency for older persons and their concerns. AoA works to heighten awareness among other Federal agencies, organizations, groups, and the public. The AoA site provides a comprehensive overview of a wide variety of topics, programs and services related to aging. Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer’s Association, a national network of chapters, is the largest national voluntary health organization committed to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and helping those affected by the disease.
American Association on Aging (ASA)
ASA is a nontraditional professional association whose members are a national, multi-disciplinary coalition that includes public and private-sector administrators and executives, service providers and researchers, educators and advocates, health and social service professionals, students and the retired. ASA provides educational programming, publications, information and training resources.
American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA)
AAHSA represents not-for-profit organizations dedicated to providing high quality health care, housing and services to the nation’s elderly. Its membership consists of over 5,000 not-for-profit nursing homes, continuing care retirement communities, senior housing and assisted living facilities and community service organizations. AAHSA has affiliate state associations across the country whose members serve more than one million older persons of all income levels, creeds and races. AAHSA's public policy work, educational programs and publications, and group purchasing programs are all resources for providers seeking to create affordability in assisted living. Historically, nonprofit organizations have been at the vanguard in the provision of service enriched housing for the nation's low-income seniors. AAHSA represents many of these mission driven organizations.
American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
AARP is the nation’s leading organization for people age 50 and older. It serves their needs and interests through information and education, advocacy, and community services, which are provided by a network of local chapters and experienced volunteers throughout the country.
American Seniors Housing Association
The website is a resource for senior living options. It provides information on retiremtent living, assisted living, nursing and rehab, home healthcare, adult day care, alzheimer's care, and support services. Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA)
ALFA is the only trade association exclusively devoted to the assisted living industry and the population it serves. Members include assisted living providers, as well as a diverse range of industry partners and supportive organizations. ALFA provides information and resources, conferences and events, education and training, and advocacy and promotion on behalf of the assisted living industry. ALFA was one of the architects (along with AAHSA, AARP and several other senior organizations) of the "Assisted Living Quality Initiative," an attempt to address issues of quality improvement for the assisted living industry. Assisted Living On-Line
This website provides a directory of information about various assisted living and retirement communities and related resources from locations across the U.S. and Canada. Descriptions and contact information are submitted by providers, operators and other resource services. Listings are posted to the website after review.
Assisted Living Workgroup (ALW)
This website contains the final report of the ALW, formed in response to the Senate Special Committee on Aging's request that assisted living stakeholders work together to reach agreement on what constitutes assisted living and provide recommendations to assure the quality of assisted living programs. The report is a major resource for policy makers and providers, containing guidance on best practices and minimum standards from a majority of the participating stakeholders. NCB Capital Impact/Coming Home played a central role in the ALW and co-chaired the Affordability Topic Group.
California Assisted Living Waiver Pilot Project (CaliforniaAssistedLiving.org)
The project represents a partnership between NCB Capital Impact and the California Department of Health Services.
Center for Excellence in Assisted Living (CEAL)
CEAL, incorporated in November 2004, seeks to foster access to high quality assisted living by bringing together the diverse stakeholders of assisted living to effectively bridge and advance research, practice and public policy, promoting research on evidence-based quality practices in assisted living, and providing a national clearinghouse of information on assisted living.
Consumer Consortium on Assisted Living (CCAL)
The Consumer Consortium on Assisted Living is a national consumer-focused organization that works collaboratively with a broad spectrum of people and organizations, supporting quality assisted living as an essential option in long-term care.
The Gerontological Society of America (GSA)
GSA is a non-profit professional organization with more than 5000 members in the field of aging. GSA provides researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers with opportunities to understand, advance, integrate, and use basic and applied research on aging to improve the quality of life as one ages.

HUD (U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development), Homes & Communities
Homes & Communities on the HUD website features examples of success stories in creating housing for special needs populations and low-income individuals. For example, they covered the opening of The Gardens at Osage Terracein Bentonville, AR, including information on the services, policies, and financing.
Long Term Care Community Coalition (LTCCC)
LTCCC works to improve long term care for the elderly and disabled. Its website, www.assisted-living411.org, provides information and resources on assisted living for consumers and providers. The consumer guides include questions to ask when considering moving to assisted living, and the provider guides include information on how to encourage independence and choice in assisted living.
National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP)
NASHP is a nonprofit, multidisciplinary forum of and for state health policy leaders from the executive and legislative branches. It provides training and technical assistance to states, produces informational resources, and convenes state, regional, and national forums. Robert Mollica of NASHP has published a major report on state assisted living policy, the rapid growth of state standards for assisted living and policy issues confronting states as they seek to regulate, increase access to, and ensure the quality of assisted living services and facilities. A summary of the 300-page report is available on the web site at www.nashp.org. NASHP anticipates putting the complete report on the internet within the next year.
U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates by Age
The Census Bureau provides age data for the nation, state, counties, and metropolitan areas. These tables include data by singe year of age, 5-year age groups, median age, and characteristics like sex, race, and ethnicity.
Urban Institute
The Urban Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan policy research and educational organization that examines the social, economic, and governance challenges facing the nation. Its website offers various resources related to different issues, including those affecting retirees and seniors.
